Zhengzhou Mixed Use Development prioritizes natural surroundings

Designed by Trahan Architects, the Zhengzhou Mixed Use Development plan has been conceptualized for Zhengzhou in central China, which is one of the most rapidly developing cities in the country. The development, which will be a part of a large scale development under planning, called “The Rise of Central China”, has been designed sustainably while prioritizing natural resources surrounding the site.

The ecological development will blend with the surrounding landscape including the forest park, scenic areas, wetlands/reserves, rivers and lakes. The city, which has to serve an integrated hub for import and export of goods, will be remodeled on the principles of sustainability. The proposed design features a hotel and live/work areas on the top levels that blend with the retail base located on the lower levels. The top levels are rotated over the corners to frame the exterior of the site.

The development includes green boulevards that flow up the edges of the site to create a sustainably green urban space. The top level, which has been conceptualized as an entertainment level, allows visitors to enjoy amenities and an elevated view of the developing city.
