His holiness Benedict XVI has frequently underlines the need for sustainable development to safeguard creation and there is nothing better than encouraging others to live a green life than by riding in all-electric cars. Renault has presented the Vatican with two electric vehicles, designed to meet the mobility needs of the Pope.
The first vehicle is designed for use when the Pope is traveling at his summer residence. The environmentally friendly version of the Popemobile is based on Kangoo Maxi Z.E. and is powered by a 44KW electric motor running on a lithium-ion battery pack. The vehicle ensures a range of 170km. The other vehicle is quite similar to the first, but its blue livery features a white and yellow stripe along each flank. The vehicle is for use by the Corps of Gendarmerie Corps of Vatican City for the security of His Holiness.
Both the cars were converted by the company in association with the French constructor-coachbuilder Gruau. The exclusive vehicles can seat up to four people with two highly comfortable seats at the rear. Other features include an opening roof, removable rear windows, hinged rear side doors and electrically folding door steps.
