One of the most advanced energy institutions in Korea, The Korea Hydro Nuclear Power Company, is all set to receive a sustainable new headquarters building that has been designed by Haeahn Architecture. The project is to be built on a site that is surrounded by rich historical heritage and will represents the company’s sustainability claims.
The requirements set out included sustainable space for governmental offices and civic programs. Moreover, the office related programs have to stack vertically while growing in a spiral curve without having to propose a tower in the middle of the green landscape. To better the building’s solar orientation, the inner façade faces south and inward to the courtyard. The transparent façade ensures maximum day lighting while a shading module changes in depth and width according to the rotating orientation towards the west.
The building includes abundant recreational and semi-public outdoor spaces that are designed to promote a healthy working atmosphere to the employees. On the outdoors one will be able to find several sports fields, gardens, promenades and ecological water reservoirs. Towards the west, the elevated ground level that extends from the mountainside contains a tennis court and a walking garden that merges onto the roof of the auditorium building. The stepped roof of the building offers space for roof top gardens and several green spaces while also providing zones for the installation of solar panels to generate renewable energy.
