Taking inspiration from folding electric bikes, which not only are comfortable to ride but also to carry around, the Scorpion fs 26 S-Pedelec is just what we needed desperately. Made by HP Velotechnik, the Scorpion is a foldable electric assist trike that features two small tires in the front for steering and stability and a large 26-inch tire at its back.
The chassis used is adopted from the automotive industry and the e-trike can easily be folded and rolled out when need arises. The speedy recumbent trike can be powered conventionally by pedaling it, where all the power is transferred through a 27-speed Shimano XT drivetrain. To ease uphill commutes or simply when you’re not in a mood to pedal, the trike can also be powered by a 500W BionX hub motor attached to the rear wheel.
With electric assist, the e-trike can hit a top speed of 45kph, which is just the max we go in our car on a congested highway. Being claimed as the first folding full-suspension e-bike with a 26-inch rear wheel, the zero-emission electric trike is powered by a rechargeable 48-volt Li-Mn battery. Brakes consist of hydraulically coupled Tektro Auriga E-Twin discs and an LED lighting system makes your night times rides a lot safer.
The electric trike also offers the rider start assist, by pushing the bike to a speed of 6kph at the press of a button before the rider takes on the pedals. And that’s not all, the e-trike also comes with an innovative regenerative braking mechanism that fuels up the onboard battery during braking. The Scorpion fs 26 S-Pedelec is expected to hit the markets next year with a price tag of around $7495.
