While people living in the urban world might complain about the lack of greenery in the area due to the lack of land available for farming, an LA-based eco artist and sculptor, Stephen Glassman, believes that cities can be made green by simply turning the billboards into living gardens. The designer’s new and unique sustainability project called “Urban Air” sees existing billboard go green by filling them with bamboo.
The smart gardens are Wi-Fi enabled and apart from adding greenery to the urban mix also come with sensors that monitor the climate and air conditions, transforming them into global nodes. The idea is that these floating gardens will help process CO2 from ambient air and release oxygen. After the prototype launch in LA, the team behind this innovative project wants to make DIY kits that will enable other cities to follow the lines. Urban Air has taken to Kickstarter to help fund the process of DIY kits.
