Golf course in New Orleans switches to solar-powered carts

Golfers enjoying the game at Audubon Park Golf course in New Orleans would be the first in the state to move around the beautiful course in electric golf carts powered by solar energy. The administration here has attached lightweight solar panels on the roofs of all 75 new carts. The solar panels are removable so after four or five years, the typical lifespan of golf carts, the solar panels can easily be removed and attached to the next generation of carts.

The investment is about $1000 for each panel and since the carts will be charged continuously during the daytime, the panels will save energy and money on electricity. According to the manufacturer, each panel will be able to offset 100 pounds of CO2 emissions and the anticipated energy savings are about $10,000 each year.
