Fiat’s iconic 500 subcompact gets an electric avatar at LA Auto Show

The wait is finally over and Fiat has impressed one and all at the LA Auto Show with an electric version of the highly popular Fiat 500. The Fiat 500e, is just as cute and appealing as the gas-powered version but is designed to make you travel without emitting even a single ounce of CO2 from the tailpipe. The electric car gets powered by an 111hp, 83KW electric motor that sources juice from a 24kWh liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack.

The developers claim that the battery pack is fit for a 100 mile drive in city driving mode, after which it can be recharged in just four hours when charged from a 240V outlet using the on-board 6.6kW charger. The exterior gets a few changes too with new 15-inch alloy wheels and new color options to suit the electric drive. On the inside the vehicle gets a 7-inch display with optional TomTom navigation.
