Usun Yachts debuts solar powered tourist yachts in China

In an effort to boost eco tourism in South East China’s Fujian province, Xiamen Boat Technology company has come up with all-electric solar powered yachts that are now operational on the Yundang Lake in Xiamen. The 15-meter-long and 6-meter-wide boat has a roof entirely covered in flexible monocrystalline silicon solar panels that offer a high conversion efficiency of 22.4 percent.

The solar panels provide power to a small, lightweight, but highly efficient lithium battery pack that powers a set of electric motors with a conversion efficiency of 90 percent. The all-electric boats produce no noise and are entirely environmentally friendly as all the energy they consume comes from renewable solar energy. The high efficiency solar panels charge the onboard battery in just 4-5 hours after which the boat can operate for 8-10 hours traveling at a speed of 10kph.

To even reduce the amount of energy consumed within the boat, the designers have installed energy efficient LED lights to create soft lighting effects. To even better the eco credentials of the boat, the designers have installed on board a large capacity sewage tank that makes sure no wastewater is emitted into the lake.
