After showcasing the true potential of an electric car with the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG E-Cell, the company isn’t just stopping on the road and wants to make a mark on the open waters too. The engineers here had recently teamed up with Cigarette Racing to develop a fast and furious electric powerboat and have unveiled the creation at the Miami International Boat Show this week. The concept powerboat, dubbed Cigarette AMG Electric Drive, is now being claimed as the world’s most powerful electric drive powerboat.
To achieve the world’s most powerful record, the electric boat is powered by a literally insane electric drive, which consists of four batteries with a total of 48 modules and 3,456 cells, a bank that has a total capacity of 240kWh and a maximum voltage of 400 volts. The boat has a combined output of 1654 kilowatts and produces 2,212 pound-feet of torque, enough to make the boat reach a top speed of 100mph.
To charge this powerhouse, there are two 22kW onboard chargers from the SLS AMG Electric Drive as standard and the charging capacity of 44kW is accomplished in about seven hours. Still a concept, the developers have remained silent on the operating range.
