With gaming fanatics spending most of their time playing games on gaming consoles such as the Xbox 360, these gaming consoles are bound to get broken down sooner or later. While most broken down gaming consoles end up in the landfill, where their plastic parts take thousands of years to degrade, Spencer Shepard has tried to salvage one of them by transforming it into an aquarium.
The custom project features a fully functional saltwater aquarium, with live corals, fish, crabs, snails and shrimp, along with color-changing LED lights, the intensity of which can be controlled with a wireless remote and a water filtration system as well. The aquarium was created by first removing all internals of the original Xbox 360 and then carving out a viewing window with a water jet. The container left after the process was filled with a glass tank and filtration components.
The existing power cable and connection were reused and routed for the new system’s wiring required for the filtration process and the lighting. Check out the video below to see the system in action.
