Electric vehicles are definitely the way forward, especially considering the steep and constant rise in the prices of fossil fuels. However, electric cars haven’t still been adopted globally due to their low operating range, high charging times and the unavailability of fast charging electric car infrastructure. Industrial designer Anna Bordas Eddy wants to put an end to some of the problems commonly associated with EVs with the help of the Bwired – an electric car charging station.

The advancements in thin film solar panel technology have made researchers and product designers come up with interesting new concepts to generate renewable energy when outdoors. The Eco Bike by industrial designer Alexander Babich Suricoma is one such concept, which features a complete solar energy generator onboard a hybrid bicycle.
Montreal is growing and developing fast, and so is the need for urban public transportation systems that are light on the environment but could manage the growing needs. Industrial designer Frederic Laurin-Lalonde from the University of Montreal has come up with a concept electric monorail, which is perfectly suited for the city.
The steep rise in the cost of fossil fuel and concerns about emissions from gas guzzling cars, most auto manufacturers have come up with electric cars that are much cheaper to ride than a conventional car. However, the high upfront cost of these cars and their less operating range, are some of the questions that manufacturers still have to answer. While with recent advancements in battery technology, the perfect electric car could well be on the roads pretty soon, till then the best you can get at a comparatively affordable cost is something on the lines of the Rishock electric quadricycle.
For many of us sustainable transportation is all about driving a car that runs on either an electric engine or a low emission hybrid one. However, for Rick Cavallaro, sustainable personal transportation is all about reducing emissions any way possible. Led by him, DDWFTTW has come up with a car powered entirely by wind. Dubbed the Blackbird, the zero emission vehicle has been designed in such a way that it can travel faster than the speed of wind, while traveling both upwind and downwind.
Right after the first concepts arrived of autonomous vehicles that could revolutionize public transportation, PRTs or Personal Rapid Transit systems have gained a lot of attention. Rightly so, as the technology promises cleaner transportation systems for busy metropolitan cities where residents don’t have much time to spend in traffic jams. A couple of days ago, we discussed about Pininfarina’s PRT and today we have another concept on the same lines, with the inclusion of renewable solar energy.
While many airline operators including Lufthansa and KLM have already tested clean aircrafts that are powered by a blend of aviation fuel and biofuel to reduce emissions, Air Canada is the latest to make it to the list after flying an Airbus A319, operated by the company, on a green 50/50 blend of aviation fuel and biofuel made from recycled cooking oil.
